It's important to note that American travelers can stay in Türkiye for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period without a visa. The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Türkiye have stated that exceeding the 90-day limit may result in fines upon departure (the amount depends on the duration of overstay) and potential bans on re-entry into Türkiye for up to six months.
In a recent development, Türkiye has lifted the visa requirement for U.S. travelers and has also waived the prerequisite for nationals from Bahrain, Canada, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. This brings the total number of countries enjoying visa-free access to Türkiye to around 80, with a concentration in Europe, South America, and the Middle East.
This change simplifies the process for travelers interested in Turkish Airlines' free stopover program. Under this program, passengers with a layover of at least 20 hours in Istanbul qualify for the "Stopover in Istanbul" benefit. This includes a complimentary hotel room – one night in a four-star hotel for economy-class passengers and two nights in a five-star hotel for business-class fliers.
While Türkiye relaxes its visa requirement, Brazil is set to reintroduce one. Starting April 10, 2024, U.S. nationals visiting Brazil will need an e-visa, costing $81 and valid for 10 years, allowing multiple entries during that period.
